Understanding the Bail Process in Placer County
We’re the only bail bonds agent located directly across from the Placer County Jail in Auburn. We've been serving Placer County since 1973, when our founder Frank opened Frank Calabretta's Bail House Bail Bonds.
Not only do we offer fast, convenient, and confidential Placer County bail bonds services at Bail House, we do our best to make sure that our clients understand the bail process. If you have any questions about how bail works, warrants, or court system processes, give us a call, and we will be happy to explain. It’s important to understand what to expect and what to do or avoid after being arrested, and we are here for you.
What Happens After Arrest?
When someone is arrested in Placer County, they will go through the booking process at the Jail. Depending on the reason for arrest and the defendant's legal history, they may be offered release on bail. Essentially, bail represents the sum of money that needs to be provided to the court to allow the accused individual to rejoin society until their trial. In California, there is a schedule for Bail amounts that the courts use to determine how much you will pay to be released on Bail (see Placer County Bail Schedule here). The defendant has three options if offered bail:
- Do nothing - stay in jail.
- Pay the bail amount in full and be released (this is referred to as 'cash bail').
- Work with a licensed bail agent to get a bail bond.
Since you are on this site, you are probably interested in the third option. A Bail Bond is a pathway to free a loved one or friend in Placer County without needing to cover the entire bail sum.
This is where we come in at Bail House. The cost of bail bonds is set by law at 10% of the bail amount. This amount must be paid upfront and is known as the premium. For example, if bail is set at $10,000 the premium would be $1,000.
To proceed, the bail bondsman requires the defendant or their representative—known as the indemnitor—to complete a bail application and sign a contract. This paperwork outlines the terms of the agreement, including the responsibilities of all parties involved. The indemnitor, often a friend or family member, agrees to take financial responsibility if the defendant fails to meet court obligations.
Once the paperwork is finalized and the bail bond fee is paid, the bondsman submits the bond to the court or jail. The jail then processes the release, which can take anywhere between 20 minutes and a few hours, depending on the facility. After this, the defendant is free to leave custody, provided they comply with any conditions set by the court, such as attending all scheduled court dates.
Services Offered in Placer County
Besides general bail bond service, we specialize in the following services:

As a parent, there is one phone call you never want to receive. I immediately called my lawyer and he suggested Melissa Z at the Bail house. I must say, that was the best and most calming phone call. Thank you so much Melissa for your kind words and quick response to my panic attack. With your services, my son was home within a few hours. You even called back to check on him which was simply amazing. I was completely out of my depth so I am very thankful for your services. Quick, reasonable, and effective. If you ever find yourself in this type of situation - this company should be your first phone call.

I needed to help a California arrestee who contacted my Illinois law office. The Bail House was a 10 out of 10 in terms of communication, clarity, speed (they ran across the street with the bond that I purchased for the client), and follow ups. First class in every way!!!

They helped me through a process where I thought I was helpless in jail. I did not know anyone phone numbers and they were able to assist me in searching via social media. I happened to recall a friend’s username and from there I was able to get a hold of my friend. The assistant was willing to put in the effort to reach out to my friend and ensure she was in touch me with throughout the process. She was able to assist me to post bail. I’m so grateful, thank you so much. I highly recommend!!

Frank and Melissa really helped out my girlfriend’s brother when he was in a bind. Not only are they knowledgeable about the bail system, they are also very compassionate. I recommend Bail House Bail Bonds to anyone looking for fast, easy, friendly, bail support.

I have referred two personal friends to Frank Calabretta's Bail House Bail Bonds. Someone facing a DUI charge is mortified enough to begin with. I was told how relieved they were to work with such professional and courteous people during such a rough time. I have always known Melissa and Frank to be wonderful people who really know what they are doing. When a friend or family member's well being is on the line, it is important to be able to recommend someone you trust. I can't thank those two enough for never letting me down!
